"Esther Chae offers some of the more humorous moments in the play, only to break your heart in the end. Sometimes unrecognizable, she played several servants in the first act as a comedic catalyst while in the second act, she plays a transvestite martyr dying of AIDS who later sacrifices her life to make Zul’s better." -- Asia Pacific Arts/UCLA

"The engaging Esther K. Chae as prostitute/terrorist bomber Mina, a minor character from Act 1 emerges as full-blown characters in Act 2." --Hollywood Reporter

"Beautiful Esther K. Chae, a butterfly-like maid in Act One, is a tragic transsexual in Act Two, delightful in a thinly written part that needs more motivation" -- Curtain Up

"The inclusion of a transvestite suicide bomber with AIDS (talented Esther K. Chae) is too much contrived freight. Ultimately, the greatest distinction of "A Distant Shore" is its strength as a showcase for actors tackling widely divergent parts." --Variety
